I asked myself what I wanted to
express on the website of The Leaves of My Soul. I want to politely remind those of us that our ancestors creative blood flows through our lives. I want to acknowledge the struggles that cause the labor pains of talent to not give up. For we take a vow of marriage till death do us part. For richer or poorer. It’s a love hate relationship this thing called art and damn if we do and damn if we don’t. But there are rams in the bushes and guardian angels everywhere with uplifting motivating inspirational blessings in each artistic expression.”

— Blackman

A native of Cherry Hill (The Hill) located in South Baltimore (B-More) a predominately black community went to predominantly black schools. My upbringing was great being one of six siblings I being third born after two sisters. My mom and dad raised us in a row home I would assume hard times but memories of plenty love hot meals warmth clothing and toys what more can children ask for. Cherry Hill had its own (B-More) culture small knit community with its own indoor outdoor pools movie theater schools recreational centers. It was like living on an island or your own world. As most urban communities this wonderful life was met with gentrification, drugs, civil rights, deaths and military unrest. With innocence lost life taught courses and from our choices life lessons. Which set the tempo and the rhythms of the pencil transcribing The Leaves Of My Soul.
